Hey Reader, 🎁 Quick heads up: The first 5 early-bird spots filled fast—so I’ve opened up 5 more. Today, I want to talk about how your environment is overwhelming you. 🧠 The ADHD Overwhelm TrapYou ever come home from a long day, walk into your space, and instantly feel drained? That used to be me after my chemical engineering job. I'd open the door and see:
Any one of these would drain my mood. All of them at once? Instant overwhelm.
I’d drop my bag, open Instagram, and suddenly it was midnight. That little escape cost me hours... days. I explain it here! This is the ADHD Loop: Clutter → Overwhelm → Avoidance → Guilt → More Clutter We think, "I'll do it later." But "later" becomes 3 hours of scrolling and a home that keeps stressing us out. 🗑️ Why Clutter Creates OverwhelmYour brain is a problem-solving machine. Every small mess—
—registers as a problem to solve. Each one adds pressure. And our ADHD brains are already at capacity. So we shut down. Even worse? Every time we feel overwhelmed, we say "Fuck it," and distract ourselves with something like TikTok. Clutter doesn't just steal your focus. It teaches us to avoid our lives. So, when it's time to finish that project or solve that problem, we do what we always do: avoid it.
But, we can't let this happen. So, let me introduce you to my fix. 🧠 My Fix: Make It Stupid EasyThe secret is, don’t wait until "later."
Batching chores doesn't work when you have ADHD. You'll just procrastinate... with TikTok Chores already sound like hell, so why would 8 hours of it be any easier? Procrastination happens when things look too difficult. So, our goal is to make things look easier. ⏳ Enter: The 2-Minute RuleIf something takes less than 2 minutes, I do it immediately. For example, when I finish with a dish, I don't let it soak; I put it right in the dishwasher. When the dishwasher finishes, I empty it. Tiny actions remove future overwhelm.
And slowly, I removed all the clutter. Even better? It stays that way. Now, when life gets chaotic, I don’t spiral. I stay consistent because my environment doesn’t pile on. Just FYI, you're forming a new habit, so it will take time. Don't give up! I fall off too, so I stay consistent by asking myself this on my progress tracker daily. 🏡 What Counts As Clutter? As Marie Kondo says, Keep only items that spark joy and discard the rest
So that means
I eliminate tasks before they become too overwhelming. Not because I have insane willpower. But because I follow the 2-min rule. When my girlfriend visited for the first time, she said: It looks like an Airbnb in here. I barely cleaned. Because there wasn't much to clean. ✅ What You Can Do Right Now
You’re not lazy. You’re overstimulated. Make your space a recharge station, not a war zone. Reply if you're staring at a dirty dish or laundry right now. I won't judge. Promise. If you finish them right now, I'll send you a picture of 2 thumbs up! Clutter = Overwhelm
