How to Withstand Any Business Meltdown

Hey Reader,

Today, I want to share how focusing on my health has helped me survive over the past four years. Ultimately, allowing my business to reach $10k/month. As Alex Hormozi says,

Over the last four years, I’ve hit every low point:

  • Family and friends saying, “This won’t work.”
  • Realizing my first business wasn’t viable
  • No sales calls. < $1000 in my account
  • Clients asking for refunds
  • Telling my mom, I felt like a loser

Every time, I felt like curling into a ball and calling it quits. But I didn’t.

I’ve become so resilient because I prioritize my health. When you’re healthy, you can rebound from anything.

Here’s why

Health is Wealth

Think of energy as a bank account.

Every challenge —bad client, failed launch, rejection—is a major cost, like a root canal, a new computer, or a new set of tires.

Working out, therapy, eating healthy, and relaxing are like revenue. If you’re consistent, you build an emergency fund.

If you’re sleep-deprived and stressed, it’s equivalent to living paycheck to paycheck.

Think about the pressure and anxiety you must feel when you’re one event away from losing it all. It’ll affect every aspect of your life. You’ll

  • Be overwhelmed, and your focus will suffer
  • Lack the energy to put your best foot forward
  • Struggle to hit the targets you normally would
  • Lose confidence in your ability
  • Become avoidant and procrastinate
  • Be scared to take risks

How can you flourish and push yourself when you’re running on fumes?

You can’t! You just increase your chances of “filing for bankruptcy,” or giving up on your dreams.

Now, let’s look at the other side.

When you have an emergency fund, major costs and challenges don’t impact your life.

This strategy has allowed me to

  • Get in the best shape of my life
  • Become happier than ever
  • Survive the last 4 years and grow every year
  • Hit $10k/mo

Since I'm consistent with my health, I can withstand any challenge. So, this list will grow because every goal is now a question of “when,” not "if."

But I wasn’t always like this. Here are the mistakes that I made.

Sprinting the First Mile of a Marathon

I used to think

  • skipping workouts
  • sleeping < 7 hours
  • eating poorly
  • going right to bed after working all day without a break
  • working all weekend instead of having fun

would help me reach my goals faster. It didn’t.

It was like sprinting the first mile of a marathon—you feel productive, but you burn out and crash hard. Shit, you might not even finish.

I used to do this all the time. I’d stay up late to squeeze in more work. For a week, I’d see increased productivity and better results. Then the crash came. My mood dipped, my output tanked, and I’d try to fix it by working even harder. But I couldn’t because I was so exhausted. So, I’d have to sleep. Then, I’d rinse and repeat. It was a terrible cycle.

This behavior compounds and generates severe health problems. My cousin (a finance bro) lived this way for years. Before he turned 30, he got thyroid cancer. If he continued to prioritize work over his health, he might not be here today.

Once your health especially your sleep is fucked, all kinds of problems will arise.

  • Procrastination
  • Distracted by your phone
  • Missing deadlines
  • Dependency on stimulants to stay awake
  • You’re awake, but exhausted

You'll become resistant to work because you start to dread it!

So, how do we ensure that we’re always “generating revenue?”

Design your day around your health

I treat my health tasks like meeting with a high-paying client. I

  • Don’t adjust it often,
  • Am always on time,
  • Ensure nothing else is on my schedule.

Here are the critical health tasks, aka nonnegotiables:

  • Sleep 8 hours daily
  • Workout 4 - 6 days weekly
  • Eat healthy daily
  • Find a therapist & journal
  • Review your day and close it out
  • Take breaks throughout your day & relax every night
  • Have fun on the weekends
  • Spend time with friends & family

And then I put them into my calendar. This ensures they get done daily and stops me from reinventing the wheel.

The time left over is available for work, relationships, and fun. This pushes me to be efficient with my time so I don’t waste my day. Parkinson's Law states

“Work expands to fill the time available for completion.”

Here’s how to prioritize your health and build your calendar!

To ensure consistency, I track

  • Sleep
  • Water drank
  • Workouts
  • Work hours
  • Calories and protein

daily using a progress tracker. Read more about this here.

If you don’t have revenue coming in, you don’t have a business. So, don’t make the mistake of neglecting your health.

This is the quickest way for your business to fail.

Your Health Is Your Emergency Fund

  • You can’t outwork a broken body
  • Think of energy like revenue—if you run out, you go bankrupt
  • If you can survive long enough, every goal is achievable
  • Treat your health like your top client

If you're struggling with maintaining your health, reach out!
